Ahab, Jezebel, and the prophets of Baal

As recorded in the Bible, Ahab was an exceedingly wicked king of Israel, in the days of the prophet Elijah.  Not only was Ahab himself evil.  But Ahab was married to a woman whose name (Jezebel) afterward came to be used, throughout Scripture, to represent a lying, domineering, religious spirit which seduces people to apostatize (turn away from the truth of God; see, Revelation 2:20; et al).   Ahab is symbolic of secular rulers (government); whereas, Jezebel is symbolic of apostate religious leaders.   Spiritually speaking, Ahab is still sleeping with Jezebel.  The fruit of that unholy union is an abomination to God, and oppression and sorrow to mankind.

Ahab surrounded himself with prophets ~ false prophets, who told the king what he wanted to hear.  Things haven't changed a bit since then.  Human nature is still what it ever has been: corrupt.  Just as in the time of Ahab the number of false prophets overwhelmingly outnumbered the faithful prophets of the Lord, so it is, today.  And just as the false prophets, for their own personal gain, conspired to strengthen the power of Ahab and Jezebel, over society; so also do modern day false prophets seek to advantage themselves by seducing the churches, in accordance with the desires of wicked rulers in government.  The Bible shows us that an adulterous Woman (the apostate Church) rides to power on the back of the Beast (worldly empire); notwithstanding, that harlot religious system will be destroyed by that same Beast.

Those like myself, who have deeply studied the current Apostasy of the 'Church' and who thus are aware of how pervasive and how deep that Apostasy is, daily battle against the temptation to despair.  Only by keeping our eyes fixed on God are we thereby enabled to carry on in hope, and in the knowledge that the prophets of Baal shall not prevail.

Still, it grieves me when I think about how many souls are being led astray by Ahab's false prophets and by that spirit of Jezebel ~ which, seducing spirit, animates practically every well known religious leader in the world, today.  I thought about putting together a collage of photographs of false prophets, for this essay.  But as I began to search for those images, I quickly realized that the number, of well known personalities who are false prophets, is so great that it made my intended project appear unreasonable.  And I was again tempted to ask myself: How can we contend against such overwhelming forces arrayed against us?  How can we reach souls, with the true Gospel, when Ahab and Jezebel control practically every social institution, including government, churches, schools, and mass media?

Then, I recalled what Jesus said: "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom" (Luke 12:32).

Too, I remembered that it is written (in Daniel 7:18,) that "the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever."

And I thought about how that God wrought such a great victory, over the 850 prophets of Baal (who worked for Ahab and Jezebel), through the faith and courage of one man of God, that is, the prophet Elijah.

So, I will keep on seeking the Lord.  And I will keep on praying: "Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."  I will keep on believing that God is in control, and that He will have the last word.  And I will keep on believing that my prayers matter to God.  I don't know how God is going to move; but I do know that He will.  I don't know when God will deliver and exalt His people; but I know that it must be very soon.

I intend to be ready, and to stay ready.  The witness of the Holy Ghost is amazingly clear: God is letting us know that the time we have long been waiting for is now at hand.  I mean, right at hand.
