Why should we not believe that God is yet willing to move by His Spirit in extraordinary ways, to the saving of many souls? Is that not the very purpose for which God sent Christ into the world, in the first place? I do try to keep a proper perspective. For example, I remind myself that if God were to send a Revival that would result in, say, 500 Million souls coming to Christ for Salvation: still, that would represent barely more than six per cent (6%) of the global population! Is God not willing or able to save even six out of every one-hundred souls? Like I said, I try to keep a proper perspective; meaning, I work to try and elevate my thinking (and my faith) to something above the level of heathen mentality.
There are probably more people living in the world at this very moment than have lived throughout all the millennia combined ~ at least, since the Flood. Which means that in this present generation, the Redemptive work of Jesus Christ stands to have greater impact (in numerical terms) than during all of the previous 2,000 years taken together!
NO!!! I emphatically do NOT believe the world is somehow darker than it has ever been. Of course, there are tremendously more people who are in spiritual darkness, compared with every former generation; but, that doesn't make the darkness any darker. Throughout the history of the world, it seems there has been a kind of ongoing tug-of-war for the human race, alternating between periods of gross apostasy on the one hand, and widespread revival on the other. Now, here we stand at the very threshold of the most dramatic, radical transformation the world has ever experienced ~ which is ready to seal up the eternal destiny of the singularly most numerous generation that has ever lived on this planet . . . . And, yet, the vast majority of professing Christians have absolutely no faith whatsoever that God intends to anything more than what we have thus far seen Him do to open the eyes and hearts of multiple BILLIONS of souls!
I simply cannot believe that of God. That is not the God I know. Why, just today, the Holy Ghost was speaking to me about a passage in the book of Micah, which states that God "requires" that men must "love mercy," etc. (Micah 6:8). Note, it does not say that men ought merely to be merciful. Infinitely deeper than that, God "requires" (see the text) that men must "love" mercy. There is a difference as wide as the ocean.
Does God, then, "love" mercy? Hey hey! God loves! mercy. He loves it! Of course, that does not mean that God is a 'push over,' so to speak, concerning sin. God forbid! God hates sin no less than He loves mercy. Fallen humanity has a pitifully poor conception of the true nature of God. God is not soft on sin. But neither is God 'hard' on the sinner; sin is what makes sinners' lives so hard. Though it is true that God will at length enter into judgment against every sinner that persists to reject His mercy. Nevertheless, God deals very patiently, in mercy, with the rebellious and self-willed. Why? Because, God loves mercy.
All of which, to my mind, suggests that God is desiring to reach this generation!! I believe it more and more, with every passing day. Oh, yes, I know there are many who will object on the basis that Jesus himself asked the question: "When the son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8). Consider, however, the CONTEXT in which that question occurs in Scripture. Jesus spoke a parable "to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint"!! (Luke 18:1) Jesus put forth, as it were, a challenge ~ in the form of a QUESTION, to us IN THIS GENERATION; as if he had instead said something to this effect:
I'm telling you that you can have whatsoever you want from God ~ IF ~ you will prevail in prayer; IF you will not surrender your desire to frustration and, ultimately, to doubt; IF you will with dogged determination hold onto God until the answer comes forth from Him!!! But, who will believe me?"Renew! Renew! Renew your faith!" saith God. Recall to mind who it is that reached down to rescue YOUR soul from eternal destruction! Remember who it is that created the souls of men, and who it is that offered Himself for their redemption! Who called YOU forth from out of darkness, to live in the marvelous light of God? "My hand is not shortened, saith the Lord; neither is my ear heavy that I cannot hear your prayers." But ~ where are your prayers for your generation? I will search you out; I will know the truth of your professed love to Me: I will search for it in the lives of those around you. I will know whether or not you love mercy: I will see it in your works. And I will answer you, according to your own works, your own faith, your own ways. Surely, I will not do less than go to the farthest extent that you may be willing to go, to reach the lost and dying world. You know that I am able. Do not doubt that I am also willing. Go! then. Go! and I will be with you, saith the Lord Almighty.
Amen. Thank You.
